A version of this update was published on Georgia’s LinkedIn

Our mission is to help people structure their wealth around their values. In 2016, we decided to do the same for Modernist’s values. Here’s the work we’re proud of from 2017:

INVITE & INCLUDE

We launched Modernist Money Stories, a bi-monthly gathering where Portland’s most brilliant minds discuss big questions about money. In 2018, we’ll be taking these conversations to LA and NYC!

We implemented open-books management, a way to include all employees in financial decisions.

INVEST IN PEOPLE

We celebrated our 2-year anniversary in July by making a $1000 gift to Portland’s College Possible.

We expanded staff benefits to include 100% employer-paid life, disability, and platinum health insurance.

INNOVATE & ITERATE

We wrote more; sharing our thoughts on social media and in 13 press features (including Forbes 2x!)

We designed a philanthropy plan to FUND OUR HEROES - details below!

DO GOOD WORK & DO IT WELL

We achieved B Corp certification!

We made PBJ’s lists of Largest Wealth Management Firms, Women-Owned Businesses, and Most Generous Corporate Philanthropists - Small Company. Georgia was a runner-up for 40 under 40.

We continued to deliver values-driven planning to our clients, on average they rated our meetings 9.6/10.

It’s been a busy year and we couldn’t have done it without you! Thank you for supporting us.

FUND YOUR HEROES - MODERNIST’S NEW PHILANTHROPY PLAN

In 2017, we nearly doubled our charitable donations to 1.5% of gross revenue, including gifts to: Sarah Lawrence College Scholarship Fund, College PossibleCenter for Women’s LeadershipWomen’s Foundation of OregonOPBMarketplaceProPublicaLiterary ArtsWork for ArtOregon Cultural TrustPortland Japanese Gardenp:earSouthern Poverty Law CenterCompassion & ChoicesPitchBlack, and Self Enhancement Inc. We are excited to see that grow in 2018.

Modernist is so grateful for the non-profits that support our community; we are proud to help fund their heroic work. As we grow, we want to be a more reliable partner, especially due to the systemic inequities undermining their efforts. Moving forward, we intend to give through structure, not anxiety.

So, we created our Philanthropy Plan to fund our heroes (and yours).

TO HELP US LIVE UP TO THIS MISSION, WE WOULD LOVE YOUR INPUT. LET US KNOW WHAT YOU THINK AT MODERNISTFINANCIAL.COM/FUNDYOURHEROES. AS ALWAYS, WE LOOK FORWARD TO LEARNING FROM YOU!
