JUNE NEWSLETTER | Good Business is So Gay š
Hi there,
As national Pride Month wraps up, weāre grateful Portland made all summer gay by expanding into July. Catch us, wrapped up in rainbows, at our Pride Parade on July 21st.
Weāre also thrilled to return to hosting Modernist events after a pandemic hiatus (virtual event fatigue, anyone?). Weāre tiling out the calendar with deep chats about money and impact, plus workshops for our fave non-profit partners.
Say gay! Thank a queen!

investment insights
Could Bitcoin & Nvidia be the next Blackberry? On the blog, we use historical examples to remind ourselves that while the flashy Magnificent 7 can seem exciting, a companyās future is never a sure thing, making a diversified approach essential.
Structure Your Wealth Around Your Values
Investing IS emotional. Which is why we use a data-driven approach to guide our work and your investments. We believe in financial science and in transparency. Thatās why we share our Investment Methodology openly; check it out to learn more about how we invest and why!
FROM THE TEAM
In mid-May, Katia and Georgia had a fab time teaching an in-person Modernist University 101: Goals & Values workshop! A very sweet room of about eighty St. Maryās parents and daughters had deep insights into money and values across generations. This was our first pro bono workshop post-pandemic, and weāre delighted to be of service to partners and organizations we believe in, and to connect our work with a wider community... modernist TAKES it outside
Modernist was named #13 on Portland Business Journalās list of largest LGBTQ+ owned businesses in the Pacific Northwest! Weāre of course channeling the queens from Weāre Here as we accept the award. š Thanks, PBJ!
Throwback to when Georgia joined Rhodes Perry on the Out Entrepreneur podcast to talk about queerness in business, getting clear on your money stories, and the importance of a diverse pipeline of talent into the financial industry.
FUND YOUR HEROES
This Juneteenth, Modernist is donating 19% of our June revenue to Taking Ownership PDX to support generational wealth building in the Black community. Check out this history of redlining to better understand how systematic racism operates in real estate; consider joining us in making a Juneteenth donation to support their impact.
As we ramp up to election season, consider taking time to write letters to unregistered voters via Vote Forward! This is one of the most effective ways to increase voter turnoutāand you can do it from home, or at a local coffee shop with a friend. š
Good News
We love seeing Portland shine at the James Beard awards! Langbaan won Best Restaurant in America, and Gregory Gourdet was awarded Best Chef: NW & Pacificāand wore a fabulous feather-adorned jacket made by friend of the firm Adam Arnold.
Oregon Humanitiesā So Much Together is a series of free, all-ages workshops that explore bringing greater imagination and collaboration into our work and communities through a blend of presentations, conversations, activities, and reflection.
Check out the upcoming July events, and dig into the archive too.
A SONG THATāS REALLY ABOUT COMMUNITY
I know you wanted me to stay /
But I can't ignore the crazy visions of me in LA /
And I heard that there's a special place /
Where boys and girls can all be queens every single day
Weāre loving how Chappell Roan is spreading queer joy and liberation far and wide! šā”ļø Her persona takes inspiration from drag performers, and for this performance at NPR her towering wig is propped up by a trash bag and adorned with cigarettes. A true queen.
