JANUARY NEWSLETTER | Let’s Take On The Year Ahead
Hi friends,
We started the year with an energizing Q1 2022 biz retreat and a rejuvenating Hawaiian cycling tour; we are ready to take on the year ahead.
We're beginning our annual client cycle by scheduling Investment Review meetings (spring will be here before you know it!) and ramping up our tax prep support. CPA friends, we send you strength as April approaches!
Here's to a year of ease and joy,
Georgia + Team Modernist
investment insights
On the blog, we take a look back at how the market fared in Q4. Here’s a quick snapshot:
Do you have questions about cryptocurrency? Who doesn’t?! Georgia chatted with Farnoosh Torabi for a recent CNET article on this buzzy topic.
Structure Your Wealth Around Your Values
Georgia will join fellow progressive business leaders for a BBPDX panel discussion on building anti-racist companies. Georgia will discuss her personal drive to lead with anti-racism and the systemic structures the Modernist team have built to support the work as we learn.
If you're a current or prospective BBPDX member, please RSVP here!
modernist takes it outside
We’re thrilled that Georgia was invited to give the 2022 McGregor Memorial Lecture at Oregon State University!
She’ll dig into her hypothesis that a company can thrive by challenging conventional business mindsets, centering inclusivity, and embracing “beginner’s mind” over traditional expertise.

FUND YOUR HEROES
To kick off the new year, we created a calendar to cultivate a practice of gratitude and care throughout the year.
It features Portland murals (thanks to Color Outside The Lines, an org we ❤️ to support!), suggested nearby coffee shops to visit and tip generously at, and the Modernist Manifesto.
We'll share pieces of this project on Instagram throughout 2022.
We hope it inspires you to be an engaged part of your community, seek out public art, and support small businesses. We know we can be the change we want to see in our cities.
ART BREAK: André & bill
Speaking of place + our recent calendar, we’re delighted to be reminded of the joys of street fashion in great cities, in this look at fashion great André Leon Talley, through the eyes of another great, street photographer Bill Cunningham.
A Song That is REALLY About believing in enough
On her walk to work, Georgia heard this new Modernist anthem on Portland’s excellent new radio station, The Numberz. All about Believing in Enough and remembering what’s truly important. And the sunny good vibes will brighten even the darkest winter day!
Everybody wants money, money / To live in a location sunny, sunny / But that life ain't funny for me, for me / Cause I don't need that much money, money… Cause the best things in life are free (alo, alo) / Money come, money go
