MARCH NEWSLETTER: Why It Matters Where You Bank (And What To Do About It)
Hi friends,
Like our clients, our decisions are guided by our values (here’s Modernist’s inspiring manifesto for a refresh).
Being a B Corp helps us walk our talk by holding us accountable to practicing our values as actions and structures. To recertify, B Lab sets the bar higher every three years, challenging us to live deeper and more meaningfully into how business (and especially the deeply inequitable financial systems) can benefit all of us.
Here's to B Corp month and the movement to make business into a force for good in the world!
Cheers,
Georgia

#fundyourheroes by voting with your dollar
The Fiscal Femme put together a roundup of Black owned banks, reminding us that banks have played a major role in the racial wealth gap, funding our country’s racist past. If you’re switching banks, they make a great argument for choosing a Black-owned bank.
We recommend using the site Might Deposits to better understand the social and environmental impacts of where your dollars sleep at night. See how your bank stacks up...or find a new bank (you can search by Black-owned banks and other impact areas).
Art Break: one woman’s trash
Portland Garment Factory (PGF) creates home goods, wearables, and face masks in their zero waste SE Portland factory.
This woman-owned B Corp donated 2700+ masks last year to essential workers and underserved communities, and now offers them for retail and bulk orders, too. Pick up some chic masks for your team, yourself, and your family.

a song that is really about b corps
Modernist loves Bob Dylan's The Times They Are A-Changin' as a call to take action on change; whether it’s our bank, our investments, shopping local with B Corps or POC owned businesses, or committing a % of income to organizations like Sister District to elect progressive leaders or Black Voters Matter to insure everyone's right to vote.
Come senators, congressmen / Please heed the call
Don't stand in the doorway / Don't block up the hall
For he that gets hurt / Will be he who has stalled
The battle outside ragin' / Will soon shake your windows / And rattle your walls
For the times they are a-changin'
